NSCDC, POLICE STREGHTENS COLLABORATION TO SUSTAIN SECURITY IN FCT.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command and the Nigeria Police Force, have mapped out ways on sustaining security in the territory.
The strengthened collaboration took place on Wednesday when the FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Ajao Adewale, visited the FCT NSCDC Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu, at the Command’s headquarters.
Odumosu said that in as much as the FCT seemed relatively peaceful at the moment, there was need to ensure appropriate security measures are in place.
“We need to continue to forge ahead and come to the table at all times, interfere where necessary and ensure that we move FCT to another level where people can go about their normal businesses without fear of any criminal attack,” the commandant said.
According to him, the visit symbolised the continuity of an already existing relationship between both security agencies of government.
“Seeing you today has given me some sort of joy and confidence that there is hope for the security community and avery bad days for the criminals,” he said.
The commandant said that the best way forward in ensuring heightened security in the FCT was to collaborate by avoiding any form of bickering or unhealthy rivalry that would slow down the fight against insecurity.
“Why should we be fighting each other because of maybe role confusion or the like? there is no room and there is no reason for inter-agency rivalry.
“We are all one and the same, so whether at the upper or lower echelon we should see each other as one because the only difference between us is the uniform we put on.
“So if we can begin to see each other from that point of view, I want to believe that we will have a seamless operation and success against these criminals,” he said.
Earlier in his remarks, the CP reiterated that security was an enormous task and advocated for multiagency collaboration to attain positive results.
“The reward for good work is more work hence the need for ehnhanced collaboration between both organisations and to sign a way forward to ensure proper protection of the territory,” Adewale said.
According to him, “ the days of ego are over, and when agencies engage in friction, citizens suffer”.
He said that insecurity was a global phenomenon but has however, been escalated in Nigeria.
“Some countries have a way of managing it better by under-reporting it, in order not to de-market their economy, unfortunately, Nigeria is a country where we love to escalate everything and anything.
“But as long as the security agencies collaborate sufficiently, the criminals will be having bad days,” he said.
Adewale said that the importance of eradicating inter-agency rivalry cannot be over emphasised, adding that security organisations are to complement each other.
“When we take discipline as a religion, I think there will be no friction and when we have less of friction, there will be less of crime.
“I appreciate your command for the wonderful synergy that has been existing between both organisations which has helped to make FCT crime-free or maintained a very low level of crime.
“I think Abuja has become calm now but we need to sustain the calmness by managing and mitigating the situation through developing new strategies to nip crimes in the bud.
“So this synergy must continue and I pray we give it all it takes to ensure that the collaboration continues,” he prayed.
