NSCDC STRENGTHENS INTERAGENCY SYNERGY FOR BETTER DISASTER MANAGEMENT RESPONSE
As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national emergency response mechanisms, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has organised a two-day stakeholders’ training focused on consolidating interagency synergy and promoting a more coordinated approach to disaster management in Nigeria.
The training, themed “Development of Disaster Management in Nigeria: Enhancing Interagency Collaboration,” brought together personnel of the Corps and key emergency response stakeholders to reinforce cooperation, improve communication, and build a unified operational framework for tackling disasters across the country.
Delivering the keynote address, the Commandant General of NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, stated that the evolving nature of disasters in Nigeria demands stronger collaboration among agencies charged with public safety and emergency response.
He observed that incidents such as floods, building collapses, fire outbreaks, oil spills, and insurgency-related crises have further highlighted the importance of coordinated synergy in disaster prevention, preparedness, and response.
According to him, the Corps remains committed to consolidating existing partnerships and fostering seamless cooperation among stakeholders in order to ensure faster, more effective, and well-coordinated interventions during emergencies.
“Disaster management requires collective responsibility and coordinated action,” he said. “The complexity of today’s emergencies makes interagency synergy indispensable. Our goal is to continue strengthening collaboration and building a response structure that is proactive, integrated, and efficient.”
The NSCDC helmsman further explained that the Corps’ Disaster Management Department serves as a frontline coordination mechanism through continuous engagement with disaster management units across all NSCDC formations nationwide.
In his welcome address, the Deputy Commandant General in charge of Crisis Management, Pedro Awili Ideba, noted that the training was designed to deepen institutional collaboration and improve collective response capacity among relevant agencies.
He emphasized that stronger coordination, information sharing, and operational understanding remain critical to achieving successful disaster response outcomes, adding that preparedness built on synergy remains the best strategy for mitigating emergencies.
Resource persons at the training were drawn from the Defence Headquarters, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nigerian Red Cross Society, and the Federal Fire Service.
The opening session also featured goodwill messages delivered on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, the Director General of NEMA, and the Secretary General of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, all reaffirming their commitment to sustained collaboration in advancing disaster management efforts nationwide.
