AIG FCID Annex Lagos Pays Courtesy Visit to Comptroller of Immigration, Lagos State Command. Emphasizes Robust Inter-Agency Cooperation.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Lagos, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, psc fdc mspsp MNIM alongside members of the FCID Annex Lagos leadership team, paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State Command, where they were received by the Comptroller of Immigration Services, CIS Christopher Olu Onajirin.
The visit was aimed at further strengthening the existing synergy between the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the FCID Annex Lagos, and the Nigeria Immigration Service in the areas of intelligence sharing, border security, trans-border crime prevention, criminal records management, and the effective administration of criminal justice.
In his remarks, the AIG appreciated the Comptroller for the warm reception accorded to him and his team. He noted that the Nigeria Immigration Service has consistently maintained a cordial working relationship with the FCID Annex Lagos through regular engagements and cooperation in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.
The AIG emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration among security agencies, particularly in tackling trans-border crimes, human trafficking, and other emerging security challenges. He further stated that continuous intelligence sharing and professionalism among agencies remain critical towards achieving a crime-free society and ensuring national security.
Responding, the Comptroller of Immigration Services, CIS Christopher Olu Onajirin, appreciated the AIG and his leadership team for the courtesy visit, describing it as a privilege and honour to receive the delegation. He commended the AIG for his warm disposition and sense of humour, while acknowledging the historical and strategic relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The Comptroller noted that the Nigeria Police Force remains the foundation of internal security architecture in the country and commended the Police for their professionalism and commitment to duty. He further stated that since assuming office, the Command has recorded significant operational successes, particularly in combating human trafficking and dismantling notorious criminal syndicates, with the Nigeria Police playing major supportive roles.
He also praised the dedication and professionalism of Police officers in the field and stressed the need for continuous intelligence sharing among security agencies as a collective effort towards maintaining a crime-free society, especially in addressing offences linked to illegal migration and trans-border criminal activities.
The Comptroller further disclosed that the Nigeria Immigration Service is working towards making visa processing more seamless and efficient through online platforms, with visas now obtainable within 24 hours in certain categories.
The visit concluded with the exchange of plaques and a group photograph as a symbol of mutual respect, cooperation, and strengthened inter-agency partnership.
