POLICE RECOVER TWO STOLEN VEHICLES IN AKURE AND OWO THROUGH SWIFT OPERATIONAL RESPONSE UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF IGP EGBETOKUN
In furtherance of the sustained efforts of the Nigeria Police Force under the visionary and reform-driven leadership of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, to rid the nation of criminal elements and ensure the protection of lives and property, the Ondo State Police Command has recorded yet another operational success with the recovery of two stolen vehicles in Akure and Owo.
The breakthrough began on the 29th of October, 2025, when one Chief Kayode, a resident of Akure, reported at the station that a vehicle suspected to have been stolen had been abandoned for some time at a location adjacent to the Police Secondary School, Alagbaka, along Ado Road, Akure. Acting on the report, operatives of the ‘A’ Division, Akure, responded swiftly and mobilized detectives to the scene, where a Toyota Camry (Big Daddy), ash in colour, with registration number KJA 755 SG, was recovered and taken to the station for further investigation.
Upon examination, some documents bearing the name Balogun Busayo, alongside a mobile phone and a GTBank ATM card, were found in the vehicle. The discovery prompted detectives to commence a discreet investigation aimed at tracing the rightful owner and uncovering the circumstances surrounding the vehicle’s abandonment.
Building on this success, and in what appeared to be a continuation of the Command’s intensified operations against vehicle theft, another stolen vehicle was recovered in Owo. On the 2nd of November, 2025, at about 0430hrs, the Police received a distress call from the Tisco Building area of Owo, that a Lexus RX 300 SUV, black in colour, with registration number MMA 754 AC, had been stolen from the premises by suspected armed criminals.
In a prompt and well-coordinated response, operatives of the ‘B’ Division, Owo, swiftly mobilized to the area and launched a hot pursuit of the fleeing suspects. The intense chase pressured the assailants to abandon the stolen vehicle along the Owo–Akure Road, near Ogbese, before escaping into the bush under the cover of darkness. The vehicle was successfully recovered and conveyed to the station, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, commended the officers for their courage, promptness, and professionalism in both operations. He noted that these achievements are a direct reflection of the renewed operational efficiency and morale being inspired across the Nigeria Police Force under the watch of IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, whose administration has continued to prioritize capacity building, welfare, and strategic policing reforms.
He further assured the public that the Command will remain steadfast in its commitment to the IGP’s vision of a safer, people-oriented policing system in Ondo State. The CP also appealed to residents to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and to promptly report all suspicious activities or movements to the nearest Police formation for immediate action.
In addition, the Command is calling on members of the public, particularly those who may have lost their vehicles in recent times, to visit the nearest Police station with valid proof of ownership for proper identification and possible recovery.
