SECURITY EXPERTS HAIL PROF. AUDI’S REFORMS AS NSCDC STRENGTHENS FIGHT AGAINST ILLEGAL MINING

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, has been lauded for his visionary leadership in combating illegal mining and safeguarding Nigeria’s critical national assets.

The commendation came at the National Stakeholders and Civil Society Summit held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja. The summit convened senior government officials, civil society leaders, and security agencies to address pressing threats including terrorism, oil theft, violent extremism, illegal mining, and human rights violations.

Speaking on the theme “The Role of Community Leaders and Civil Society Organisations in Tackling Illegal Mining in Nigeria,” Prof. Audi, represented by ACC Attah John Onoja, outlined the Corps’ landmark achievements through the establishment of the Mining Marshals. He explained that their intelligence-driven operations have disrupted illegal mining across several states, safeguarded mineral resources, boosted government revenue, and supported local economic development.

Prof. Audi stressed that security agencies cannot win the fight against illegal mining in isolation. “The fight against illegal mining cannot be left to security agencies alone. Communities, traditional leaders, and civil society must be part of the solution if Nigeria is to safeguard her mineral wealth for future generations,” he declared.

He further called for deeper grassroots engagement, enhanced intelligence sharing, and stronger inter-agency collaboration, while reaffirming the NSCDC’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, integrity, and service to the nation.

The summit closed with a consensus that empowering security institutions, particularly the NSCDC, is vital to protecting Nigeria’s mineral wealth, strengthening economic stability, and securing the nation’s future.
