NSCDC Deployed Over 600 Security Personnel as Osun Gubernatorial Election Ends Peacefully

*ABUJA* — More than 600 arms-bearing personnel were deployed from Abuja to Osun State between August 10 and August 16, 2026, as part of a strategic security operation for the just concluded Osun Gubernatorial Election.

According to a deployment report submitted at the end of the exercise, the operation was coordinated under the leadership of DCG Ayuba Philips, in charge of Operations, following a directive and strategic address by Commandant Appolos Dandaura.

The deployment was designed to ensure nationwide representation. One officer was selected from each Command across the Federation and grouped at approximately eight officers per vehicle. The teams were sent to all Local Government Areas of Osun State with a clear directive that no officer was to be absent from duty.

"The arrangement was deliberate and inclusive to ensure representation, unity, and shared responsibility," the report stated. "It was made clear that no officer could stay off from duty. Every officer understood that the integrity of the election rested on our shoulders."

In a notable component of the operation, four operational vehicles were placed under a Female Squad Commander serving as Team Lead. The squad, comprising about 29 officers, was strategically deployed to the Osun Central Senatorial District to provide security coverage, maintain order, and assure voters of their safety.

Officials reported a large voter turnout across the state. Despite long hours and pressure, security teams said polling units remained secure, voters moved freely, and no breakdown of law and order was recorded in areas under their watch.

"By God’s grace and the discipline of the Corps, the election was peaceful and successful," the report concluded.

Command authorities credited the outcome to advance planning. They noted that the arrangement by CC Appolos Dandaura ensured no LGA was left uncovered, and that the continued leadership of the Commandant General inspired total commitment across the squad.

The report described the exercise as proof of joint operations, stating that when personnel are deployed as one Corps from different Commands with one mission, they are able to protect the electoral process effectively.

Osun residents turned out en masse to exercise their civil rights in what observers on ground described as an atmosphere of hope rather than fear.
