NSCDC STRENGTHENS MARITIME SECURITY CAPACITY WITH ADVANCED VBSS TRAINING UNDER UNODC PROGRAMME
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has recorded a significant milestone in its pursuit of operational excellence with the successful completion of the Basic Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) Training conducted under the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Global Maritime Crime Programme.
The intensive training, held at the Joint Maritime Security Training Centre (JMSTC), Navytown, Lagos, equipped selected personnel with critical competencies in maritime interdiction, boarding operations, tactical coordination, evidence management, and compliance with international law and human rights standards.
At a formal ceremony, the trained officers presented their certificates to the Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, who commended their commitment and reiterated the Corps’ focus on continuous capacity development as a driver of effective service delivery.
This initiative reinforces the NSCDC’s statutory mandate to protect lives, property, and critical national infrastructure, particularly within Nigeria’s maritime domain, including the security of pipelines and other strategic installations across the waterways.
Through sustained training and retraining, the Corps continues to entrench professionalism, strengthen institutional culture, and build a distinct identity within the nation’s security architecture, anchored on discipline, competence, and operational efficiency.
Under the leadership of the Commandant General, the NSCDC remains a focused, mission-driven organization committed to safeguarding the nation’s assets and upholding the law.
