STRENGTHENING THE NEXUS BETWEEN SECURITY AND EDUCATION.
In a strategic move to bolster national security and enhance human capital development, the Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof.Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, OFR, led a high powered delegation of his principal officers on a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
The visit centered on a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at establishing a robust framework for interagency training, particularly for the Corps’ training institutions, and securing Nigeria’s educational environment.
Strengthening the Nexus Between Security and Education
During the meeting, the Commandant General highlighted the transformation of the NSCDC from its volunteer roots in 1967 to its current status as an elite, academic driven security agency. He noted that the Corps can currently boast of over 40 PhD holders within its ranks, emphasizing its commitment to intellectual and professional excellence.
"The NSCDC has evolved into a highly specialized elite Corps. Our mandate is clear: we are the lead agency in protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, safeguarding our schools, and regulating the mining sector," CG Ahmed Audi stated.
The CG further expressed his desire to collaborate with TETFund to upgrade the Corps' six training institutions, specifically the College of Security Management in Abeokuta, to ensure career progression and world class development for officers.
Responding,the Executive Secretary of TETFund Arc. Sonny Echono expressed profound appreciation for the President’s foresight in appointing a visionary leader to head the NSCDC.
He acknowledged the often unseen but vital role the Corps plays in maintaining national stability.
"Security is a fundamental pillar for the success of any educational intervention.We recognize the silent, tireless work the NSCDC does to keep this nation safe," the Executive Secretary remarked.
"TETFund is fully committed to extending a hand of fellowship to the Corps. Through the upcoming MoU, we will not only support your training infrastructure but also engage the NSCDC to provide specialized security training for our own staff."
The visit concluded with a mutual commitment to expedite the signing of the MoU,marking a significant milestone in interagency synergy aimed at protecting Nigeria’s future through education and security.
