DCP Abba Kyari Loses 4 Men To Ambush In Kaduna

Tragedy has struck the camp of the IGP Intelligence Response Team, as four of its operatives were killed in an ambush in Kaduna by suspected kidnappers.

The sad incident, which occurred in late hours on Saturday, according to police sources happened in a remote settlement inside Rigasa forest area of the state.

 Information at our disposal reveals that the IRT personnel were ambushed and killed by the kidnappers, said to be gang members of two suspected kidnappers arrested earlier by the operatives in connection with the kidnapping of one Sheikh Ahmad Adam Algarkawy in Rigasa on 2nd July 2018.

A release issued by the IGP- Intelligence Response Team Abuja, made available to journalists on Sunday, identified the deceased cops as  AP/No. 148333 Inspr. Benard Odibo, AP/No. 181539 Inspr. Mamman Abubakar, AP/No. 192938 Inspr. Haruna Ibrahim and F/No. 267815 Sgt. Emmanuel Istifanus.

It stated that the late police operatives were ambushed while coming out of the bush with the two kidnappers by their assailants, who opened fire on them, leading to their death.

The statement added that the bodies of the deceased Operatives had been deposited at Saint Gerald Hospital Mortuary Kaduna State for autopsy.

According to the statement,  the late police operatives were in the forest in an effort to arrest the kidnappers of the Muslim cleric, who had been released after ransom was paid.

The statement reads, “Sequel to the Kidnapping of Sheikh Ahmad Adam Algarkawy in Rigasa area of Kaduna State on 2/8/18 and his Subsequent release after Ransom was paid. In follow up to the Case on 11/8/18 IRT Operative Arrested 2 Of the Kidnappers in a Remote Settlement inside Rigasa Forest kaduna State.

As the team where coming out of the bush with the arrested Kidnappers, other gang-members hiding inside the bush ambushed the IRT team and opened fire which resulted to the death of four  IRT operatives namely:

1. AP/No. 148333 Inspr. Benard Odibo

2. AP/No. 181539 Inspr. Mamman Abubakar

3.AP/No. 192938 Inspr. Haruna Ibrahim

4.F/No. 267815 Sgt. Emmanuel Istifanus.

Bodies of the deceased operatives were deposited at Saint Gerald’s Hospital Mortuary Kaduna State for Autopsy”.

The statement however assured that very serious efforts in progress with a view to get the killers and bring them to justice
