Court Grants DSS Permission To Detain Sowore For 45 Days Under Terrorism Act

Omoyele Sowore, Convener of #RevolutionNow protest may have to spend the next 45 days with the Department of State Service, DSS, based on the permission granted the secret agency by Justice Taiwo Taiwo of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
The DSS approached the court to give it 90 days to detain Sowore in order to conclude its investigation.
Granting an exparte order, Justice Taiwo Taiwo held that according to Section 27 subsection 1 of the Terrorism Prevention Act, the word ”May” used in the section is directory and it’s not absolute, it affords the court the discretion to make a decision.
Justice Taiwo further held that after the expiration of the 45 days the applicants are at liberty to apply for an extension which is at the discretion of the court.
