The National Judicial
Council (NJC) has exonerated a judge of the Federal High Court, Justice
Okon Abang of allegations of misconduct brought against him through a
petition in respect of a judgment delivered against the Senator Ahmed
Makarfi’s faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The NJC in a letter dated 15th March, 2017 and signed by its Secretary,
Danladi Halilu, said there was no merit in the petition against the
Judge and as such dismissed the petition.
Senator Makarfi had petitioned the NJC on August 25, 2016 accusing
Justice Abang of assuming appellate powers to sit over the decision of a
court of coordinate jurisdiction in declaring as illegal the
Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee of the national leadership of PDP.
