Police Recruits To Undergo Psychiatric Tests – DIG Training

In an avowed determination to curb the cases of accidental discharge by policemen, all new intakes will henceforth be subjected to psychiatric test, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of Training DIG Emmanuel Inyang has said.
A Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police in charge of training, Emmanuel Inyang said that police applicants will have to see phychiatric doctors during their screening process to reduce cases of accidental discharge in the police.
The DIG,  who made the disclosure Wednesday while monitoring the screening exercise at the Police College, Ikeja, hinted that the psychiatric test will form.part of the screening process.
 Iyang informed that he and other DIGs had been directed to monitor the screening to get the best policemen recruited.
“The applicants will see the psychiatric doctor to for mental evaluation and drug screening. We want to make sure we have the best as we don’t want cases of accidental discharge.
” We don’t want to have criminals here. Personality tests will also be done to deter cultists from joining the police.
“A committee including senior police officers, officials of the Federal Character Commission and the Joint Matriculation Board (JAMB) for biometrics was also set up to monitor the screening.
“This is to ensure transparency as we don’t want anyone to be victimised. We want to get the best.
“Those that have falsified their ages will be subjected to a machine test which will reveal their real age.
“Successful candidates will go through another aptitude test by JAMB from which they will get their result the same day and subjected to further medical screening and physical examination.
“We assure Nigerians that we will get the best, we just need their corporation to make this screening a success.” he said
