Youths Anti-Corruption: ICPC Plays Host to Schools
In
an effort to achieve its preventive mandate and reduce the incidence of
corruption in the country, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other
Related Offences Commission (ICPC), played host to pupils from ABC
Academy International, Utako in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and
Virgins Academy, Suleja, Niger State.
The Head of Education Department, ICPC, Mr. Baba Ashiru, who welcomed the students encouraged them to always stand for the right things and shun corruption as future leaders. He commended the teachers of the school for bringing the pupils to ICPC and encouraged them to set up Anti-Corruption Club in their schools, after which ICPC can be invited to inaugurate it.
Mr. Ashiru further urged the teachers to assist in building the integrity of the students in their formative years while advising the pupils to be honest, shun exam malpractices and be good at all times so that they would grow up to become good citizens.
Also speaking at the event, Mrs. Azuka Ogugua of the Education Department, enlightened the students on the functions of ICPC, types of corruption and the effects of corruption. She impressed on the pupils the need for them to take a stance against corruption, adding that integrity and honesty were “the way to go”.
In their reaction, Mrs. Egbe Justina and Mr. Abdulahi Yusuf, who led the delegations of both schools, expressed their gratitude to the Commission for hosting them, and gave the assurance that the lessons learnt from the visit would be used for the betterment of the students.
The schools where presented with some Information Education and Communication materials by the HOD, Education, ICPC.
