EFCC, INEC Partner To Fight Corruption

As the country steadily move towards 2019 general elections, the Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has called on Nigerians to rise up to their responsibilities by making the right choice of leaders in order to move the nation forward.
“I encourage everyone to get their permanent voters card (PVC) and get the right people into office as a medium of fighting corruption", he said.
Magu made the appeal while on a courtesy visit to the Chairman, Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, at the INEC Headquarters, Abuja on Thursday, February 8, 2018.
He urged Nigerians, irrespective of gender or status to support the fight against corruption.
The EFCC boss likened corruption to ‘cancer’ noting that it had remained the bane of Nigeria’s development. He stressed the need for a collective effort at curbing it.
Prof. Yakubu thanked Magu and his team for the visit, while soliciting for the EFCC’s support in fighting the scourge of vote buying.
He said open vote buying will not be tolerated by INEC.
According to him, “If we get our elections right, we will get our democracy right and if we get our democracy right, we can get Nigeria to be great again and corruption free”.
Prof.  Yakubu expressed readiness to partner EFCC to curb corrupt practices and specifically called on the Commission to help monitor election campaign funding by public office seekers in line with the law.
“We are on the same page with EFCC and will always be on the side of the law”, he added.
INEC National Commissioners: Baba Shettima Arfo, Anthonia Simbine, Tijami Mauzu, Engr. Naheeche, Okechukwu Ibeanu,  Mohammed Haruna and Abubakar Nahuche, Mustafa Lecky and  Dr. Adekunle Ogunmola also attended the reception.
