Nasarawa Police arrests 25 suspects, recovers fire arms

The Nasarawa State police has raised the alarm over prolif­eration of fire arms by illegal possessors as it said the command through the effort of the state gov­ernment has given a 30 days grace to those in possession of the arms without legitimacy to surrender or faced the wrath of the law for failure.
Addressing news men in his Lafia on Wednesday the police commissioner,Abubakar Sadiq said the police in the month of April/May through major opera­tions within the state as was car­ried out arrested 25 suspected criminals of various offences rang­ing from arm robbery,homicide and others in connection with un­lawful possession of arms.
He said exhibits were also recov­ered which included one AK47 rif­fle,12 locally made guns and four motor cycles with four vehicles ,he added that some of the suspects have since been charged to court while others are under going in­vestigations.
“These major operational suc­cesses, i believe accounted for the drastic drop in the crime rate with­in the period,notwithstanding,i want to assure the good people of Nasarawa state that we will not rest on our oars until crime rate is brought further down to the bar­est minimum.
He continued” we shall continue to adjust our crime fighting strat­egies with the aim of achieving more success,this time around the emphasis is going to be more on intelligence -led policing,visibility policing and as well as community based participatory policing. The CP added.
The police commissioner who acknowledge the state governor ef­fort however assured that for the peace that has existed in the past one month is significantly a lime mile achievement for the calmness in recent,he added that the state police command in conjunction with other sister security agencies will embark on a special operation to clamdown on persons in posses­sion of fire arms should they failed to heed at the clarion call to submit the weapons.
He called on members of the public to be part of the noble ob­jective of making Nasarawa state safer by giving useful information to the police on where manufac­turers of fire arms,persons in pos­session of arms illegally and those in the business of buying and sell­ing of the arms.- The Authority
