Operatives of Anti–Kidnapping Unit led by Commander, SP Edward Shadare have smashed a kidnapping gang at Rumuoduru in Port Harcourt, killing one of the suspects.
The operatives also rescued one Mrs Abigail Eseme Oroboh who was kidnapped from her residence on Friday April 6.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident said: “The operatives while playing along with the kidnappers for ransom, tracked them to their residence where the lady was kept in chains. However, on sighting the police engaged them and in a return fire, one of them was fatally wounded while two others escaped.”
Omoni said the police recovered, three locally made pistols, one constructed iron riffle, 30 rounds of live ammunition and one black Lexus 330 Jeep, the gang used to perpetrate their criminal acts.
He said the rescued lady has been debriefed and released to her husband for medical attention.
Assuring that the police has intensified effort to arrest the fleeing hoodlums, Omoni advised the public to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious movement in their neighborhood to the police, saying that kidnappers have evolved a new means of kidnapping.-The Authority
