The Police in Owerri, Imo State have arraigned an 83-year- old man, Dr. Eze Andrew Onukogu and two of his brothers, Chief Eugene and Chief Basil Onukogu before an Owerri Magistrate Court over an alleged malicious damage of a fence worth N1.5 million belonging to Mr. Victor Onukogu.
The court in its charge number Ow/ 267/201 also accused the trio of felony and threat to Life.
The accused were alleged to have pulled down the fence in September3, 2016 with hired tugged who were armed with dangerous weapons.
Mr. Victor Onukogu of Ngwoma,Owerri North LGA averred that when he tried to challenge them from further destruction of the property, Dr. Andrew Onukogu allegedly ordered the tugs to ‘crush’ him if he continues to resist their action.
The complainant who is a half brother to the accused also claimed that the property in question was her late mother’s kitchen which he legitimately inherited from his father, the late chief Stephen Onukogu, former Minister of Eastern Nigeria and president of the then Eastern House of Chiefs .
He also explained that Dr. Andrew and the rest of the accused rebuffed peace moves by the elders of the community.
Dr. Andrew in one of his letters he wrote to the Police insisted that he owned the land in dispute and claimed that the complainant was renovating it without his consent.
All the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail by the court while the case was adjourned to April, 28 2017. -The Authority
