The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has debunked claims making the rounds in the media that the Federal High Court did not slam a N960 billion Garnishee order against the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in favour of ALGON.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Board and acting Director General of ALGON, Dr Ted Iseghohi-Edwards and made available to The AUTHORITY yesterday, ALGON said the claim was a spurious and mischievous speculation.
According to the association, a Federal High Court presided by Justice A. Ademola on June 27, granted a garnishee order absolute for N960 billion in favour of ALGON against the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN)
“Contrary to spurious, mischievous speculation in the news media and more particularly the social media, Justice A. Ademola of the federal high court in Abuja on Monday June 27th, granted a garnishee order absolute for N960 billion ($3.188 billion) in favour of the incorporated trustees of the association of local governments of Nigeria (ALGON BOT) against the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal government of Nigeria.
“Hon Justice A. Ademola ordered CBN to debit the federal government’s account from funds already set aside by the Central Bank pursuant to an earlier garnishee order nisi of April 1st 2015 and warehouse same in the Central Bank for and on behalf of the incorporated trustees of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON BOT) for the ultimate benefit of all Local Governments in Nigeria in line with the earlier request of the board of trustees,” Iseghohi-Edwards stated.
