Two gunmen were killed on Saturday, by men of the Ni­gerian Army on patrol in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State. The AUTHORITY learnt that a group of gunmen attacked Burubara com­munity in Tai at about 9am, blocking the major highway.
A source from the community said on ar­rival, the gunmen started shooting sporadically and harassing innocent mo­torists until troops of 2 Brigade promptly inter­vened. According to the source who did not dis­closed his identity, “The gunmen, on sighting the soldiers, opened fire and started shooting sporadi­cally.
They were harassing people and motorists when military men on patrol arrived the scene of the incident and killed some of them.” The Spokesperson of 2 Bri­gade, Port Harcourt, Captain Eli Lazurus , who confirmed the incident said the unfortunate in­cident led to the death of two persons. Eli disclosed that some of the gunmen escaped with gunshot wounds.
According to him, “Anyone suspected to be having gunshot wounds should be reported to the nearest security agen­cies.” Reports indicated that one AK 47 rifle, one FN rifle, one G3 rifle, three Dane guns, two AK 47 magazines one FN magazine, two G3 maga­zines, one saw and 180 rounds of assorted am­munition, were recovered after the operation.
